GME Program Lengths

Residency Programs Accredited by the ACGME

The UT College of Medicine - Chattanooga sponsors nine (9) residency programs as part of the University of Tennessee Statewide Network of Graduate Medical Education. All residency programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).  We are also awaiting a site visit and official approval for a Neurology Residency beginning July 2023.

Internal Medicine 3 years
* Neurology (pending anticipated approval by the end of January 2023) 4 years (Must have completed a Preliminary Medicine internship prior to entering)
Obstetrics and Gynecology 4 years
Orthopaedic Surgery 5 years
Pediatrics 3 years
Plastic Surgery 3 years (Must have completed at least a five-year General Surgery Residency prior to entering)
Surgery 6 years (five clinical years and one research year)
Urology 5 years including the PGY-1 level of training

 

Fellowship Programs Accredited by the ACGME

The UT College of Medicine - Chattanooga currently sponsors six fellowship programs accredited by the ACGME as part of the University of Tennessee Statewide Network of Graduate Medical Education.

Cardiovascular Disease 3 years (Sponsored by the Department of Medicine --
Must have completed a three-year Internal Medicine Residency prior to entering)
Colon and Rectal Surgery 1 year (Sponsored by the Department of Surgery -- Must have completed at least a five-year Surgery Residency prior to entering)
Emergency Medical Services 1 year (Sponsored by the Department of Emergency Medicine -- Must have completed a three-year Emergency Medicine Residency prior to entering)
Gastroenterology 3 years (Sponsored by the Department of Medicine -- Must have completed a three-year Internal Medicine Residency prior to entering)
Surgical Critical Care 1 year (Sponsored by the Department of Surgery -- Occurs six months into the 4th year of a Surgery Residency through the end of six months into the 5th year of a Surgery Residency)
Vascular Surgery 2 years (Sponsored by the Department of Surgery -- Must have completed at least a five-year Surgery Residency prior to entering

 

Non-Standard Fellowship Programs

The UT College of Medicine - Chattanooga currently sponsors six fellowship programs which are considered Non-Standard -- either accredited by a non-ACGME related entity or society or not accredited by any official body.

Neuro-Interventional Surgery  Non-Standard (No accrediting body) 1 year (Sponsored by the Departments of Radiology and Surgery -- Must have completed a five- or six-year Radiology or seven-year Neurosurgery Residency prior to entering)
Orthopaedic Trauma  Surgery Orthopaedic Trauma Association 1 year (Sponsored by the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery -- Must have completed a six-year Orthopaedic Surgery Residency prior to entering)
