UTHSC Nursing: A Legacy of Leadership. A Career for Life.
With an outstanding national reputation earned over more than a century, the College of Nursing traces its history to 1898 and was the first College of Nursing in Tennessee. Housed in the resource-rich environment of an urban medical campus, the College of Nursing offers a highly-educated, research-oriented faculty with a focus on developing nursing leaders. The College offers a 12-month, second-degree accelerated BSN program, a traditional, four-semester BSN program, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program with nine concentrations. Our PhD in nursing is offered through the College of Graduate Health Sciences.

In the magazine's fifth annual listing of BSN programs, the UT Health Science Center College of Nursing ranked No. 18 among public schools nationwide. The college ranked No. 28 among 686 public and private schools on the list, placing the college in the top 4% of such programs nationwide.

The college's DNP program consistently ranks near the top of this important list of doctoral programs of nursing. In 2025, the college's DNP is No. 14 among public universities nationwide.
