Plastic Surgery - Chattanooga

Our Faculty at The Plastic Surgery Group of Chattanooga

“Plastic surgery is at its best a unique blend of artistic creativity and technical skill.”

“We’re here to help people realize their personal potential, whether it involves reaching their personal appearance goals or returning to work after an injury.”

As part of our residency program, you will train with nationally respected plastic surgeons and become a part of this wonderful and rewarding profession.

The University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga Department of Plastic Surgery has a fully accredited advanced three-year Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Residency Training Program.  Applicants must have completed five progressive years in an accredited general surgery residency and meet the requirements to take the certification examination of the American Board of Surgery.  Also, applicants must have passed the USMLE Step 3 in order to be appointed to the Plastic Surgery Program.

Each of our five faculty members in the Department of Plastic Surgery have a special area of interest and expertise that makes all rotations quite diverse. Some faculty are solely involved in the practice of Hand Surgery and operate the Hayes Hand Center. Other members are involved in general plastic and reconstructive surgery, microvascular reconstruction, aesthetic surgery, pediatric plastic surgery, burn care,  maxillofacial trauma, and craniofacial deformities. The level I Trauma Center continues to expand into other areas of Tennessee with two helicopters. All of our faculty have private practices at the Plastic Surgery Group:

Specific training is provided in the following areas:

    • Congenital defects of the head and neck, including clefts of the lip and palate, and craniofacial surgery
    • Neoplasms of the head and neck, including the oropharynx, and training in appropriate endoscopy
    • Cranio-maxillofacial trauma, including fractures
    • Aesthetic (cosmetic) surgery of the head and neck, trunk, and extremities
    • Plastic surgery of the breast
    • Surgery of the hand and upper extremities
    • Plastic surgery of the lower extremities
    • Plastic surgery of congenital and acquired defects of the trunk and genitalia
    • Burn management and acute and reconstructive surgery
    • Microsurgical techniques
    • Reconstruction by tissue transfer, including flaps and grafts

    • Surgery of benign and malignant lesions of the skin and soft tissue

We are proud that graduates of our program have all become board certified in Plastic Surgery.  Some choose to enter fellowship programs for subspecialty training. Others develop successful private practices or accept academic positions at universities.

Our goal is to give young plastic surgeons comprehensive training in the broad-based field of Plastic Surgery. Also we strive to let our patients know that they have received the best possible care. Treatment is offered without regard to race, creed, family stature, or ability to pay. This is the only way in which we as a department can be truly proud of our final product - a well-rounded, caring plastic surgeon who will make a difference in any community in which he or she decides to practice.
