Pharmacy Career Coach Program

Mentor with PharmD Student

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy is seeking pharmacists from all fields to volunteer as career coaches for student pharmacists in our doctor of pharmacy program.

Career coaches will help their student to develop career development skills, assisting in the development of their professional identity as they progress through the curriculum and into their first post-graduation pharmacist position.

Coaches are expected to meet with their student for about an hour twice each academic year – once in the fall semester and once in the spring semester. Additional meetings may occur based on the need and desire of the coaching pair. Meetings may be held virtually or in person, and there is flexibility in the dates and times of the meetings. This is a volunteer position.

Responsibilities of the Career Coach include meeting with their assigned student to provide individual guidance to help the student achieve their career goals, offer career advice, and provide support. A career coach's term will be one year, with options to renew annually with their matched student(s) until graduation.

Minimum requirements:

  • Licensed or retired pharmacist in any area of practice.
  • Agreement to meet with matched students at least twice annually (at a minimum)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pharmacists who have experience as a preceptor, facilitator, or mentor
  • Active involvement in professional organizations and/or in advancing the pharmacy profession
