Public and Community Psychiatry

The Division of Public and Community Psychiatry was initially established in 2016 with the creation of the Center for Health in Justice Involved Youth. The goal of the Center is to improve the health and well-being for children at risk for out-of-home placement and their families with problems related to mental illness, substance abuse, gang involvement, chronic absenteeism or other social, emotional or behavioral challenges.  Going forward, the Division will also include a Community and Public Psychiatry Fellowship leading to eligibility for Board Certification in Community and Public Psychiatry from the American Association for Community Psychiatry (AACP). We work closely with our partner, Alliance Healthcare Systems, to provide community psychiatry training opportunities for our fourth-year general psychiatry residents and other trainees, including medical students.
