Andrew Astin, DO
Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine

Dr. Astin's Bio
Dr. Astin grew up in a rural town in western Colorado, named Delta. He attended the University of Colorado at Boulder for his undergrad. He took two years off during college to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in El Salvador. Andrew meet his wife, Mallory, in Boulder. They have 2 children Drew and Annie. He attended medical school at Campbell University in North Carolina, where they fell in love with the South. Andrew enjoys playing outside with his kids, running, reading biographical non-fiction, and all things Star Wars. He and his family are thrilled to continue their adventures in Memphis and becoming a part of the UTHSC and Le Bonheur family.

Maha Bano, MD
University of South Florida

Dr. Bano's Bio
Dr. Bano was born in Sunderland, England. After a few years of shuffling around, her family finally settled in Memphis. She attended Rhodes College, where she worked as a teaching assistant in freshman writing courses and as a tutor in the Writing Center, which inspired her love of teaching. After graduating with a degree in Chemistry, she started medical school at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. She spent several long years away from home and is excited to return to Memphis for her Pediatric residency at UTHSC. Maha enjoys reading fantasy novels, watching superhero movies, arts and crafts, and spoiling her adorable nieces and nephews.

Courtney Bayruns, MD
Boston University

Dr. Bayruns's Bio
Dr. Bayruns was born in Middlesex, NJ, but grew up in Los Gatos, CA and Marietta, GA (each for 7 years to be precise). She received a BS in Human Physiology and a BA in Neuroscience from Boston University, after which she attended medical school at Boston University School of Medicine. Courtney enjoys playing with her dog Tiki, traveling, gardening, completing jigsaw puzzles, and hanging out with friends and family at the Wildwood, NJ beach. She is excited to be a part of the UTHSC family as well as expanding her ever-growing list of places she has lived in, by coming to Tennessee.

Cheri Benner, DO

Dr. Benner's Bio
Dr. Benner grew up in Bowie, Maryland. She attended Slippery Rock University for undergrad, where she received her BS in Biochemistry, with a minor in Spanish. Cheri then moved to Nashville, TN, where she met her husband, Dane, before starting medical school at Lincoln Memorial University. She enjoys spending time with her daughter and husband along with their dog. Outside of family time she loves hiking and crafting. Cheri is looking forward to exploring Memphis with her family!

Dr. Blackburn's Bio
Dr. Blackburn was born and raised in the small-town of Hobart, IN. Corinne attended Purdue University for undergrad and graduated with a BS in Biology with a Sociology minor. She loved the city live so much that she stayed there for medical school at Indiana University School of Medicine. Corinne is excited to switch cities and begin exploring all new adventures! In her spare time, she likes to go to sporting events, see live music, or cuddle at home with her 3 adorable cats and boyfriend.

Kathleen Cao, MD
University of South Carolina

Dr. Cao's Bio
Dr. Cao was born in Atlanta, GA and later moved to Columbia, SC at the age of 10. Kathleen went through school in the same city throughout her childhood, under grad, and finally finishing medical school at the University of South Carolina College of Medicine. She is the eldest of 5 and is a 1st generation Vietnamese-American. In her free time, she loves to binge watch Game of Thrones. With the move to Memphis, Kathleen hopes to become a puppy parent soon.

Dr. Cornelius was born and raised in Knoxville, TN. She attended the University of Tennessee where she studied Kinesiology before moving to Memphis for medical school. Emily loves playing sports, exercising, volunteering with her church, and adventuring with friends. She loves Le Bonheur and is ecstatic to be here.

Dr. Correa was born and raised in San Antonio, TX (Go Spurs Go!). Lauren attended the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she received a BS in Kinesiology Athletic Medicine, before moving to Galveston, TX for medical school. In her spare time, she’s chipping away at her reading list, drinking endless amounts of coffee, soaking up time with friends and family and trying to attend as many local symphony concerts as she can fit in. Lauren along with her fiancé Wayne are looking forward to new adventures in Memphis.

Cassandra “Cassie” DeVol, MD

Dr. DeVol's Bio
Dr. DeVol a South Carolina native grew up in Clemson, SC and attended Clemson University for undergrad, before starting medical school at the University of South Caroline at Greenville. Cassie spends her spare time with family and friends as well as cooking and crafting (most notably glass etching). She enjoys barre and outdoor activities such as biking. Cassie is looking forward to moving to Memphis and being immersed in another part of the country!

Dr. Fahey was born and raised in Lexington, KY. She received a BS in Human Nutrition from the University of Kentucky and stayed around for medical school (GO CATS!). Christina enjoys cooking, watching sports, trying new craft breweries, and spending time with friends and family. She is excited to move to Memphis and join the Le Bonheur team!

Dr. Gannon is originally from Canada and moved to Germantown, TN at a young age. After high school she attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville (GO VOLS!), is where she met her husband, Dillon. Emily returned home to Memphis to work at Church Health for a year prior to starting medical school at UTHSC. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with Dillon, taking their dog, Bosco to Shelby Farms, traveling, being outdoors, and playing bingo at Memphis Made!

Dr. Gusmerotti was born on Long Island, NY and grew up in Peachtree Corner, GA. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Biology before, attending medical school at Mercer University in Macon, GA. Alexa is excited to move to Memphis and start exploring all the city has to offer! In her spare time, she enjoys reading, hiking, cycle classes, and watching Georgia football GO DAWGS!

Dr. Gutman was born and raised in Birmingham, AL. She received her BA in Anthropology from the University of Alabama. Jessica returned to Birmingham for medical school at UAB. In her free time, she enjoys being outdoors, traveling, cooking and trying new restaurants. Jessica and her husband, Ilya, an Orthopaedic Surgery intern, are excited to move to Memphis and explore all that it has to offer!

Dr. Hicks was born and raised in the suburbs of Atlanta, GA. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and faithfully cheers on the Dawgs every Saturday of the season. Devin attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia, during her first year she spent time working at a clinic in Memphis and fell in love with the city! She is so excited to continue her medical training here and explore all that Memphis has to offer. In her free time, she enjoys going to local coffee shops, being outdoors with her dog and attending concerts.

Joan Lien, MD

Dr. Lien's Bio
Dr. Lien grew up in Baton Rouge, LA but lived in New Orleans for over a decade and considers it home. She attended Tulane University for both undergraduate and graduate school, earning a MS-BSE in Biomedical Engineering. She decided to stay in New Orleans working for an orthopedic lab designing and testing orthopedic devices. She loved the food and culture of New Orleans so much that she very happily stated for medical school at LSU. Joan enjoys playing soccer, running, hiking, and instagramming her food and travel adventures. She is incredibly excited to continue her training at Le Bonheur and can’t wait to serve the children of Memphis and explore the city.

Dr. McCall grew up in Duncan, OK. She graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s degree in Physiology, followed with a Master of Public Health in Health Administration and Policy from the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center. Jessica then attended Kansas City University for medical school. In her spare time, she enjoys competing in Crossfit, running, spending time outdoors and baking yummy treats. She is excited for a new adventure in Memphis.

He considers himself very lucky for the opportunity to begin his Pediatric career in Memphis. Andrew enjoys reading, movies, traveling, hiking, working out, running, and getting outside as much as possible.

Dr. Mulroy was born and raised here in Memphis. He received his BS in Biology from the University of Arkansas before returning home to attend UTHSC for medical school. In his free time, Nathan enjoys exploring the ever-changing food scene here in Memphis, spending time with friends and family as well as in the outdoors. He is an avid Notre Dame football and lacrosse fan and hopes to get back to coaching both sports one day. He plans to pursue a career in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Rushing's Bio
Dr. Rushing was born and raised in Brookhaven, MS. He completed his undergraduate degree in Biology, with minors in Chemistry and History, at the University of Mississippi. Mark moved to Jackson, MS with his wife, Anne, to attend the University of Mississippi School of Medicine (UMMC). In his free time, he enjoys cooking for his wife, and reading history books! Mark is the middle child of eight and can’t wait to join the Le Bonheur team and explore the uniqueness of Memphis. Go Grizz!

Dr. Walsh's Bio
Dr. Walsh was born in Memphis, TN and spent her childhood in both Memphis and Knoxville. She attended the University of Alabama for undergrad where she received a BS in Biology. Mallory married her high school sweetheart, Ryan, and they both attended medical school at UTHSC. They are trilled to be staying in Memphis for their residencies (Ryan is an Emergency Medicine intern). In her free time, she enjoys running, Alabama football, and taking her dogs, Enzo and Sully, to the dog park.

Dr. Williams's Bio
Dr. Williams was born in Chattanooga, TN and raised in Atlanta, GA. She received her master’s degree in Health Sciences at Meharry Medical College and completed her medical degree at Morehouse School of Medicine. Taqwela just became the first physician in her family. She enjoys traveling, going to concerts, and watching movies on Netflix. She is looking forward to attending Memphis Grizzlies games, even though she is a Lakers and Warriors fan!

Caroline Young, MD
Virginia Commonwealth University

Dr. Young's Bio
Dr. Young was born in Richmond, VA but grew up in the small town of Mount Crawford, Virginia. She followed three prior generations of Hokies (including her brother and sister) by attending Virginia Tech to obtain her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry (GO HOKIES!). Caroline returned to her home town to complete her medical degree at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. Although it was a big move to Memphis, she is excited to embrace the fun city, rich culture, and food scene here while obtaining top notch training at Le Bonheur and the renowned St Jude. In her spare time, she enjoys hot yoga, trying out healthy recipes, jogging along the Mississippi River, hanging out with friends, working on her brush lettering calligraphy, and cheering on her Hokies in the fall!
