Dental Educational Programs

Each fiscal year, our faculty and staff receive nearly $100 million in research funding, including support from National Institutes of Health grants and private foundations.

Advancing research and economic development is at the core of our mission. Research funding has directly contributed to UTHSC's long record of accomplishments in basic science, applied clinical and translational research, and public health, allowing us to continue our contributions to the health of the Memphis-area community. Through collaborative relationships with health care partnerships like St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, we are well-positioned to pave the way for innovative patient-centered research and development with a clinical and translational focus.

Prospective Student Notice

Application Deadline Extension (April 28, 2020): Due to the disruption caused by COVID-19, the UTHSC College of Dentistry is extending the DDS application deadline from September 30 to October 31.

Modification of DAT Requirements (April 28, 2020): The Prometric Centers are currently closed, with the reopening date uncertain. When Prometric reopens, the Admissions Committee is aware that getting a reservation to take a DAT may be difficult. For the current application cycle, we are suspending the requirement that the DAT be taken before applying. The Admissions Committee may interview candidates without a DAT; however, a satisfactory DAT score will need to be submitted before a final admissions decision is made.

Statement on Pass/Fail and S/NC Grades for Prospective and Newly Accepted Students: The changes COVID-19 has brought to higher education include some schools changing Spring 2020 courses to Pass/Fail type grading. In addition, some schools have announced these same changes for the Fall 2020 term. The Admissions Committee encourages all students to choose a grade if possible–especially for prerequisites. If your school does not give you an option in the matter, please be prepared to provide proof that earning a grade was not possible.
