Scheduling & Housing

UTHSC Students

UTHSC students should schedule junior and senior Emergency Medicine rotations in Chattanooga through eMedley.

All UTHSC housing requests are processed using the Request for Student Housing form

Visiting Students

Non-UTHSC senior medical students should apply for rotations in Chattanooga through the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO).

Visiting students must fit their requests into the block dates established by UTHSC for our own students. Off-cycle rotation requests are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Note: We are unable to offer housing for visiting students, so please refer to this list  for recommendations on short-term housing options.

SLOE requests

We can provide a Standard Letter of Evaluation (SLOE) for visiting fourth-year medical students upon request at the end of the rotation. Students who rotate late in the season (November–January) can still receive a SLOE.

Please email your AAMC/ResidencyCAS Letter of Recommendation (LoR) Request form to our Clerkship Coordinator to begin the process.

Students assist in procedures such as wound management; trauma resuscitation; fracture reduction and splinting; central venous access and more.

Students have a direct role in patient care similar to that of a first-year resident but are more closely supervised and directed. Students are expected to independently perform patients' history and physical exam then develop a differential diagnosis and treatment plan for common emergent conditions.

Faculty provide a total of 20 hours of didactic education based on the Model of Clinical Practice of Emergency Medicine which may focus on topics such as: acute emergency procedures; ECG interpretation; Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS); management of arrhythmias; toxicology and drug management; and other life-threatening conditions.
