Teaching Conferences
Resident mock orals are held bi-weekly between 12:00–1:00 pm on Wednesdays and are staffed by radiation oncology attending physicians. Residents are exempt from clinical duties during these times.
Morning Conference
Peer review, case presentations and discussion each morning with all staff. Residents and staff discuss anatomy, work-up, imaging, treatment options, and field design.
Physics and Radiation Biology Lectures
Physics and biology lectures are alternated each year for PGY 2-4 residents. Physics faculty give weekly interactive lectures for physics at UTHSC. Residents also participate in proton therapy physics course at St. Jude annually.
Radiation biology lectures are held monthly with on-site biologist Sunny Wu. Residents also participate in remote biology lectures in collaboration with the University of North Carolina/Duke faculty.
Journal Club
Quarterly meetings to discuss recent articles in the field.
Morbidity and Mortality
Quarterly lunch time educational sessions, conferences led by faculty members and residents.
Tumor Board
Regularly scheduled multidisciplinary conferences, attended by medical oncology, surgery, and radiation oncology in the areas of lung, breast, CNS, head and neck, gynecology, cutaneous, gastroenterology, and lymphoma. Pediatric tumor boards for CNS, lymphoma, and solid tumors during rotation at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
