Residents are required to complete a QI project and one scholarly activity during
their training. There is a designated Patient Safety and QI Chief, who is able to
assist residents with research. UTHSC has numerous opportunities to connect with general
internal medicine and subspecialty faculty mentors to perform both clinical and bench
research. Residents can request protected time for a research elective during the
PGY-2 or PGY-3 years of their clinical training.
