Student Health in Chattanooga

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Student Health Services

The University has an agreement with the local undergraduate University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Student Health Services to provide medical care for UTHSC Students rotating in Chattanooga.   UTC UHS is ready to accept UT Medical and PA students for student health related issues again.

If you are in need of medical attention, please call 423.425.2266 to schedule an appointment and kindly identify yourself as a UT Medical or PA Student.  Please bring your UT ID and insurance card to each visit in case there are services for which there is a charge.

In addition, in case their are problems in being seen at UTC HSC, we have arranged for UT Medical and PA students rotating in Chattanooga to be seen at an Erlanger practice office called Academic Internal Medicine (AIM).  Please see information below about location, hours, and contacting the practice:

Instructions

  • If you are in need of medical attention please call 423.778.8179 and identify yourself as a Medical Student.  The AIM scheduling office will work to accommodate as soon as possible.  The AIM option is not limited to just UT Medical and PA Students.  Visiting students may also use the location but be sure to bring your health insurance card and information so AIM can determine your co-pay and file your insurance.
  • Services at AIM do not include COVID testing or blood borne exposures or needle sticks.

SASSI Resources
UT Medical and PA Students rotating in Chattanooga still have full access to the resources from the main UTHSC Campus through Student Academic Support Services and Inclusion (SASSI).   The SASSI Offices offer counseling to students enrolled at UTHSC.  For students in Chattanooga, sessions can be arranged via phone or virtual platform.  

  • Students can be seen for counseling for any issue. There is no issue too small or too large. 
  • SASSI has trained and licensed counselors who are equipped to aid students in addressing challenging issues experienced while enrolled in school.
  • SASSI is committed to maintaining a confidential, and nonjudgmental space for students so they can be successful in a stressful environment.
  • Counseling records, by law, are kept confidential and separate from educational records.
  • Students can schedule an appointment with a counselor Monday–Thursday between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • In the event of a crisis, someone is available by phone after hours.
  • Students are eligible to receive unlimited sessions per academic year as needed.
  • A standard counseling session is 45-50 minutes in duration.
  • To maximize your time with your counselor, please come to your first session with the required documents completed. These documents can be emailed to the counselor prior to the first session with CONFIDENTIAL in subject line. 

SASSI offers confidential individual counseling with SASSI Counselors related to:

  • Personal Issues
  • Relaxation Techniques
  • EMDR
  • Biofeedback
  • Stress Management
  • Heart Math
  • Adjustment

Counseling appointments can be scheduled via phone, email, or by using our online scheduling system.

The Chattanooga Campus is in the process of recruiting to replace our GME Advocate/Counsel.  Once hired, that individual will be available in the Office of the Deans and the Office of Graduate & Medical Student Education in Chattanooga.  The Counselor's services are confidential and will be provided at no charge to our Residents, Fellows, Medical and PA Students, and Faculty.

Location:  Whitehall Building, Suite 104, directly across from the main Erlanger Health System, and in the same area as Dr. Panda, Courtney Orloski, and Pam Scott.

Hours and Contact Information will be provided as soon as the individual begins.

If a UTHSC student needs behavioral health care, they should contact the United Healthcare Student Resources number at 800.767.0700 to ensure that they identify a covered provider in our area.  If the student has behavioral health benefits through another insurance company, we recommend that the student contact their provider to determine similar information.
