Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Anesthesia in the College of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is to provide an environment that will foster:

From the Chairman

steve boggsThe Department of Anesthesiology in the College of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center strives to provide consistently safe care of the highest quality to all patients in all of our locations. This care is delivered irrespective of background, identity, or means.

Our goal is to teach excellent clinical anesthesiologists and nurse anesthestist who rotate in our department. To accomplish this mission, we teach and learn from each other in an environment of mutual respect, open discourse, and honest self-reflection.
