Dr. Rosenthal was born in Germany and spent her formative years in Southern Germany and Austria. She immigrated to the United States in 1967 and attended the University of Arizona, where she obtained a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology 1975. She joined the faculty at the University of TN Health Science Center that same year. In 1995, she became Director of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry. Her clinical interests include psychosomatic and anxiety disorders, chronic pain syndromes, mind-body relationships, and end-of-life issues.
She has received numerous Golden Apple teaching awards, as well as the Best Clerkship Director award. She is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, and a Fellow of the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine.
