Title: UTHSC Department of Medicine Medical Scholars Program
Description: The program provides UT medical students with the opportunity to do productive, publishable research for a year (between 2nd and 3rd years of medical school) under the supervision of an established mentor and mentorship committee with the goal of enhancing the research training experience at UT and developing a pool of potential physician scientists. Participating students will receive a stipend to defray living expenses plus additional funds for health insurance. They will also pay a nominal amount for tuition as a “placeholder” in the College of Medicine. Applications are due the first week of January.

Title:Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship
Description: "The Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship (CRF) provides support for one year of full-time clinical research training. The main goal of the program is to encourage medical students to pursue careers in clinical research. Interested medical students must be willing to take a year out from school and conduct fellowship research and training at one of 12 hosting medical schools."

Title:NIH Clinical Research Training Program
Description: "An individualized program is developed for fellows, who attend clinics, see patients on the wards, and work with a principal investigator in our laboratories on selected clinical research projects. Fellows learn about translational research, that first step from the bench to the bedside and back to the bench; attend lectures on clinical research; and participate in an interactive, group learning experience with the members of the class and leading NIH physicians and scientists."

Description: "The Sarnoff Fellowship Program offers medical students enrolled in accredited U.S. medical schools the opportunity to spend a year conducting intensive work in a biomedical research laboratory in the United States, other than the medical school in which they are enrolled. Description: HHMI Medical Research Fellows Program enables medical, dental, and veterinary students at schools located in the U.S. to spend a year conducting basic, translational, or applied biomedical research at any academic or nonprofit research institution in the United States, except at the NIH in Bethesda, MD. HHMI will award 60 fellowships in 2014. The Competition System is now open and the application deadline is January 11, 2014.

Title: HVTN Research and Mentorship Program (RAMP) Scholar Grants for African American and Hispanic medical students

Description:The development of a safe and effective HIV vaccine is one of the greatest biomedical research challenges of our time. The HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN) is now accepting applications for Research and Mentorship Program (RAMP) Scholar Grants to attract new minds and new ideas to the field. Grant recipients will work under the mentorship of HVTN-affiliated investigators to conduct short-term research projects in areas of basic, clinical, behavioral and social science.

Description: The Medical Research Fellows Program at Janelia offers students with an interest in neuronal networking and/or imaging at the cellular and molecular level an intense year-long research training experience, living and working at HHMI’s Janelia Farm Research Campus, a world-class research center in the Washington, D.C. area.
