Libertas School Partnership
Our partnership with Libertas School of Memphis provides health screenings for their students and health education to their staff and students. Libertas is a public charter school using the liberal arts approach of Dr. Maria Montessori and Core Knowledge. It serves PreK through 5th grade children in the Frayser neighborhood of Memphis. Ninety-six percent of the students are low-income and 24% have special needs.
The College of Nursing faculty and BSN students have provided more than 500 health screenings to Libertas students since the partnership began. In addition, interactive education sessions on safety, dealing with peer pressure and nutrition have been offered to students each semester. The partnership with Libertas has helped our BSN students develop a stronger sense of community and learn to address the health needs of the pediatric population in a diverse setting.
