Meet the Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources

Paul Thomas serves as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences. With 30 years of leadership experience in higher education and corporate environments, Thomas brings extensive experience in human resources, administration, and organizational leadership to UTHS.

Before joining UTHS, Thomas served as Associate Vice President for Administration and Finance and Chief Human Resources Officer at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. His earlier experience includes serving as Executive Director of Human Resources and Affirmative Action at Southwest Tennessee Community College, as well as human resources leadership roles with Federal Express and the former State Technical Institute in Memphis.

Thomas leads Human Resources with a people-first approach, emphasizing service, accessibility, and alignment with the university’s mission. His goal is to ensure Human Resources provides relevant, responsive services that meet the needs of employees and help them succeed.

As a Memphis native, Thomas is committed to strengthening the university’s connection to the community and fostering a workplace where everyone feels valued and contributes to the university’s success. He believes in helping employees reach their full potential and creating an environment where everyone can find purpose in their work.
