Scholarships

These scholarships are awarded to current students in the College of Dentistry and are not awarded to incoming, new D-1s.

  • Dr. James T. Andrews Memorial Scholarship Award: The Andrews scholar has demonstrated outstanding abilities in the area of restorative dentistry during the pre-clinical and clinical years with financial need a considering factor.
  • Dr. and Mrs. Lowell Dale Blevins Scholarship Award: The Blevins Scholar is selected primarily on financial need and secondarily on scholastic ability with preference given to married students whose spouse is employed.
  • Doris Costello Bowyer Memorial Leadership Award: The recipient of the Doris Costello Bowyer Award is presented to a student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership ability by participation in student organizations, campus activities, organized dentistry, is recognized among peers and faculty as having a positive influence on classmates, and also demonstrated competence and professionalism in studies.
  • Dr. and Mrs. Noah David Britton Scholarship Award: The Britton Scholar is selected on scholastic ability, financial need and dedication to dentistry as a career and profession.
  • Dr. John T. (Jack) Camp Scholarship Award: The Camp scholar is a dental student that has participated in athletics (preferably football, basketball or baseball) as a college student and demonstrated financial need.
  • Harold Cloogman, DDS, Scholarship Award: The Cloogman scholar will have demonstrated successful academic performance, demonstrated financial need and should be from East Tennessee.
  • Delta Dental of Arkansas Scholarship Award: The Delta Dental of Arkansas scholar is an Arkansas student who has demonstrated scholastic ability and a dedication to dentistry as a career. 
  • Delta Dental of Tennessee Scholarship Award: The Delta Dental of Tennessee scholar is a Tennessee student who has demonstrated scholastic ability and a dedication to dentistry as a career.
  • Dental Scholarship Endowment Fund Award: The Dental Scholarship Endowment Fund recognizes dental students demonstrating financial need, scholastic ability and dedication to dentistry as a career and profession.
  • Dentistry Student Government Association Scholarship Award: The Dentistry SGA scholar must be a third or fourth-year dental student with financial need who has demonstrated clinical excellence.
  • Dr. Winfield C. Dunn Scholarship Award: The Dunn scholar exhibits proven scholastic ability, leadership potential, community  service and dedication to a career in the dental health care profession, as well as financial need.
  • E. Mac Edington, Jr., DDS, and Linda Kay Edington Scholarship Award: The Edington Scholar is a Tennessee resident, who is married with at least one child, has demonstrated successful academic performance and has financial need.
  • William J. Eells, DDS, Scholarship Award: The Eells Scholar is a dental student who has demonstrated scholastic ability, financial need and dedication to dentistry as a career and profession.
  • Elizabeth Club Scholarship Award: The Elizabeth Club Scholar is a Tennessee female dental student with demonstrated academic ability and financial need.
  • Dr. R.O. and Fannie B. Ford Scholarship Award: The Ford scholar is an incoming first year student that has demonstrated exceptional scholastic ability, leadership potential and a dedication to a career as a dentist or dental scientist.
  • Dr. Kenneth L. Frame and Sara Jo Frame-Mazur Scholarship Award: The Frame-Mazur scholar is a fourth year student that has demonstrated excellence in the area of restorative dentistry.
  • Helen Flanagan Fry Scholarship Award: The Fry Scholarship is awarded to a student doctor based upon scholastic ability and financial need. The recipient should be from the eastern part of the state of Tennessee.
  • Dean James T. Ginn Scholarship Award: Established in honor of former Dean James T. Ginn by Dr. & Mrs. Perry Brickman, the Ginn Scholar is a dental student who ranks in the top third of his/her class.  Financial aid may be considered.
  • Dr. Joseph W. Graham, Sr. Scholarship Award: The Graham scholar is a dental student who has demonstrated scholastic ability,  financial need and dedication to general dentistry with emphasis on excellence in restorative dentistry.
  • Guthrie Family Scholarship Award: The Guthrie Family scholar is a fourth-year dental student from Upper East Tennessee demonstrating clinical excellence with financial need.  This award is given in memory of Mrs. Maxie Jones Guthrie.
  • Dr. and Mrs. F. Payne and Dr. Mark Hardison Scholarship Award: The Hardison scholar is a third-year dental student who has demonstrated scholastic ability, leadership potential and dedication to dentistry as a career and profession with preference given to Tennessee residents who attended UTK or MTSU.
  • Dr. Earl O. Henry Scholarship Award: The Henry scholar is a fourth year dental student who has made a commitment to serve in the United States Armed Forces with preference given to those residing in the Second District of the Tennessee Dental Association.
  • Thomas P. Hinman Meeting Scholarship Award: The Hinman scholar is selected for exceptional academic performance. The scholarship is awarded each year by, and at, the Hinman Dental Meeting in Atlanta, GA.
  • Hinman Dental Society of Atlanta Scholarship Award: The Hinman Society Scholar is a dental student recognized for his/her leadership, clinical work, financial need and grade point average.
  • Dr. and Mrs. Norris Howell Scholarship Award: The Howell scholar is a dental student who has exhibited proven scholastic ability and dedication to dentistry as a career and profession, with financial need a consideration.
  • Dr. Gerald R. Karr Family Scholarship Award: The Karr Family scholar is a dental student with demonstrated scholastic achievement, financial need and a dedication to dentistry.
  • Dr. W.C. ‘Dub’ Lady Scholarship Award: The Lady scholar is a dental student with demonstrated scholastic ability, financial need, and a dedication to dentistry as a career and a profession and should be from the eastern part of Tennessee.
  • Dr. and Mrs. David Libby Scholarship Award: The Libby scholar is a D-3 student recognized for his/her leadership potential, personal and professional integrity and scholastic achievement.
  • O.D. and Ruth McKee Scholarship Award: The McKee scholar is a dental student with demonstrated scholastic ability, financial need and dedication to dentistry as a career and profession. The recipient should be a resident of one of the following counties: Bradley County, Tennessee, Benton County, Arkansas or Augusta County, Virginia.
  • Drs. Joe Miller and Chris Miller Scholarship Award: The Miller scholar is a dental student with proven scholastic ability and a dedication to dentistry as a career and profession.
  • Dr. Joe and Pat Mosier Scholarship Award: The Mosier scholar is a dental student who has demonstrated financial need and a dedication to dentistry as a career and a profession and is ranked in the middle third of their class.
  • Beverly and Dr. Tom Nash Scholarship Award: The Nash scholar is a dental student who demonstrates successful academic performance and has financial need.
  • Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Onstott Scholarship Award: The Onstott scholar will have demonstrated successful academic performance, as well as a financial need.
  • Dr. Malcolm Overbey Student Leadership Award: The Overbey student leader is recognized for his/her exceptional leadership potential, personal and professional integrity and scholastic achievement.
  • Dr. Maurice E. Petrovsky Scholarship Award: The Petrovsky scholar is an outstanding fourth year student who has demonstrated the ‘passionate pursuit of perfection’ in the area of fixed prosthodontics.
  • Redwine-Mitchell Scholarship Award: The Redwine-Mitchell scholar is a dental student with demonstrated scholastic achievement, financial need and is from East Tennessee.
  • Second District Dental Society Scholarship Award: The Second District Dental Society scholar must be a resident in the Second District of the Tennessee Dental Association with a demonstrated financial need. This award is given to those students ranking in the middle third of their dental class.
  • Shannon Slagle Scholarship Award: The Slagle scholar is a dental student who demonstrates successful academic performance and has financial need.
  • Dr. Roy M. Smith Scholarship Award: The Smith scholar is a dental student with demonstrated scholastic achievement, financial need and is from West Tennessee.
  • Dr. Buford and Lynda Suffridge Scholarship Award: The Suffridge scholar is selected primarily on the basis of financial need with special consideration given to those students ranking in the middle third of their dental class.
  • Cecily W. Tipton Scholarship Award: The Tipton scholar is an outstanding dental student who has demonstrated academic excellence and financial need.
  • University of Tennessee Alumni Association’s Andy Holt Scholarship Award: The University of Tennessee Alumni Association selects dental students for demonstrated academic excellence plus community service and participation in campus activities.
  • University of Tennessee Alumni Association’s Legacy Scholarship Award: The University of Tennessee Alumni Association Legacy scholar is a first year dental student with the highest academic credentials who is also the child of a College of Dentistry graduate.
  • Dr. and Mrs. Thomas N. Weems Scholarship Award: The Weems scholar is a dental student with proven academic ability and found to be deserving.
  • Dr. Robert N. Wilson Scholarship Award: The Wilson scholar is a dental student who is married, has at least one child and has demonstrated financial need.
  • Xi Psi Phi Fraternity Scholarship Award: The ZIP Fraternity scholar is a D-4 or a D-3 student with demonstrated academic ability and service to the Xi Psi Phi dental fraternity.
