International Medical Graduate Applicants to Our Neurology Residency
International Medical Graduates
Thank you for your interest in our program.
- We accept international medical students and graduates into our program and are looking for select individuals who have recent US clinical experience and who have passed USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CK and CS on first attempt.
- All applicants must submit passing results for USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 prior to submitting your NRMP rank list.
- Applicants who have Permanent Resident Visa status (i.e., a Green Card) may apply to our GME programs.
- We can sponsor non-U.S. Citizen applicants for J-1 Visas only (i.e., the University of Tennessee Graduate Medical Education Programs cannot sponsor individuals for an H-1B visa).
- International Medical Graduates must hold the standard Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate before entering our training programs.
- We do not offer observing or clinical experiences for physicians applying to our programs.
The Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners requires that applicants for license in Tennessee must be graduates either from LCME or AOA accredited schools or from international schools whose admission meet or exceed those of medical schools accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. The UT College of Medicine Chattanooga and its programs have determined that they will only consider applicants for residency/fellowship applications who are from schools who meet these same criteria so they would be eligible for medical license in Tennessee after completing residency. The Board of Medical Examiners adopts the following list of accreditation bodies:
- Medical Board of California list of approved medical schools
- Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP)
- Accreditation Commission of Colleges of Medicine (ACCM)
- National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA) provides a list of countries whose designated accreditation process or designated organization used for their accreditation has comparable standards used to evaluate medical schools in the United States by the LCME. Medical schools in those countries and accredited by the listed accrediting authority will be deemed to meet the criteria required in Tennessee. - Preference is given to IMG's who have graduated no more than three years ago.
