Why I chose UTHSC: At the social the night before interviews it felt like the residents were a family watching them interact. I knew I would come out a well-trained surgeon being here and talking with attendings at home they all had the same response, that surgeons from here know how to operate. I also liked the ability to train at multiple different hospitals throughout the city and the opportunity to find research in whatever path I choose.

Jennifer Lynn Wallace
Hobbies: I love spending my free time with my dog, my Lou (a mini goldendoodle who runs my life), whether that’s just hanging out or getting outside when the weather’s nice. I’m big on unwinding with a good show or movie—lately that’s been things like White Lotus, Euphoria, House of the Dragon, and Love Island—basically anything I can get invested in after a long day. I also have an Etsy shop where I design digital art, so I stay creative outside of medicine. When I’m not doing that, I’m usually trying new restaurants or breweries—I’ll never turn down a good IPA—or just soaking up summertime whenever I get the chance.
Career Goals: I want to be the best surgeon I can be while continuing to grow into the best version of myself. I’m especially drawn to trauma and critical care—it’s life-or-death every day, and I love the pace, the acuity, and being part of a team that shows up when it matters most.

What do you enjoy in your free time? Skiing, hiking, rock climbing, reading, boardgames, video games, oh and skiing.
What are your career goals? My current interest is in surgical oncology and HPB pathologies.
Why did you choose UTHSC for your residency? UTHSC has a great reputation for training skilled surgeons that get tremendous exposure to trauma and critical care, which is an excellent foundation to have for any surgeon. There's also plenty of opportunities for mentorship form surgeons the generally care about your education and will invest in your future.
