Summer Research Scholars (SRS)

Program Description

SRS is an eight‐week program designed to help exceptionally well‐qualified undergraduate students gain valuable research experience in the College of Graduate Health Sciences. Students are matched with UTHSC faculty and spend the eight weeks learning about real‐world research protocols, enhancing biomedical information and retrieval skills, and designing scientific abstracts, among other things. The program culminates with presentations by the students based on the research they worked on during the summer.

Student Eligibility
  • Freshman, Junior, Sophomore, or Senior undergraduate student currently enrolled at an accredited college or university
  • Minimum cumulative and science GPA of 3.0
Prerequisite Course Requirements
  • Must have completed at least one semester of general biology and/or general chemistry prior to application.
  • Application opens on December 1, 2019
  • Application deadline is February 28, 2020
  • Application Documents Required:
    – Official transcript(s)
    – Two (2) letters of recommendation from college professors
    – Personal statement
    – Previous research experience preferred, not required
  • Housing is provided to non-local residents, upon request.
