Office of Research Safety Affairs

The Office of Research Safety Affairs helps researchers stay compliant with federal and state regulations, reducing administrative burden while protecting the health and safety of our campus and community.

Researchers must meet requirements from agencies including the CDC, NIH, NRC, Tennessee OSHA, TDEC, and EPA. Non-compliance can expose both individuals and the university to liability.

To help, we provide:

  • Training – resources to keep your team current on safety requirements
  • Risk assessments & SOPs – tailored evaluations and standard operating procedures
  • Hazardous materials management – handling of chemical, biological, and radiological agents and wastes
  • Protocol support – assistance with IBC and IACUC submissions
  • Exposure assessments & incident investigations – identifying risks and driving continuous improvement
  • Lab inspections – conducted in accordance with regulatory mandates
