Executive Vice Chancellor

Dr. Kennard Brown, our Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Operations Officer (EVC/COO), announced with a personal message of gratitude  that he is retiring from UTHSC after 25 impressive years of service. We cannot thank him enough for his remarkable contributions.

A few accolades from Dr. Brown's tenure include:

  • Led the $70 million overhaul and restoration of UTHSC’s historical quadrangle — the original center of the campus — which opened in spring 2021 and brought new life to its facilities: the Mooney Building, Crowe Building, and Nash Building and Nash Annex.
  • Played a large role in the development of the $65 million College of Pharmacy building, which opened in 2011. He led the development of the $20 million Plough Center and $49 million Translational Science Research Building, which opened in 2017; and the $39.7 million Center for Healthcare Improvement and Patient Simulation (CHIPS), which opened in 2018.
  • Helped develop the $45 million Delta Dental of Tennessee building, which is set to open April 14, and worked with the Henry Turley Co. on Orleans Station — a mixed-use development that hopes to provide a quality housing option for UTHSC’s array of professional health students.
  • Architect of the UTHSC Campus Master Plan.
  • 2017 Health Care Heroes Award for Administrative Excellence from the Memphis Business Journal.
  • A commendation from the Tennessee Legislature.
  • The 2018 Visionary Leadership Award from the Common Table Health Alliance.

A search for Dr. Brown's replacement is underway.
