Center for Sickle Cell Disease at UTHSC
The UTHSC Center for Sickle Cell Disease, with its affiliated medical centers at Diggs Kraus Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center and Methodist Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center, is the largest center for the care of adults with SCD in Tennessee.
The center’s multidisciplinary team is committed to providing patients across their lifespan with highly personalized care to manage their symptoms associated with the disease so they can live as normal a life as possible.
Mission
- To provide state of the art medical care to individuals with sickle cell disease and related hemoglobinopathies
- To carry out cutting-edge clinical, translational and basic research in sickle cell disease
- To inform patients and families, and the community health care about sickle cell disease
- To provide psychosocial support and advocacy for individuals and families with sickle cell disease
- To train healthcare providers and researchers in sickle cell disease and related blood disorders
- To analyze and improve on the health services systems within which medical care is delivered to individuals with sickle cell disease.

About the Center
Our SCD teams include physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, case management and a psychologist. Our patients have access to emergency infusion centers at both medical centers and on-call physicians to answer questions after hours and on weekends.
