Spring Commencement Updates

Commencement will be a ticketed event. Graduates will be provided a block of 6 tickets with assigned seats. Details on ticketing, regalia, accomodations, and parking can be found below.

Spring Commencement 2021

We will host Memphis commencement activities in person on the following days: 

  • May 10th at 11 am - College of Graduate Health Sciences Hooding Ceremony, Schreier Auditorium, Wassell Randolph Student Alumni Center 
  • May 11th at 11 am - College of Health Professions, Renasant Convention Center 
  • May 11th at 2 pm - College of Pharmacy, Renasant Convention Center
  • May 19th at 3 pm - College of Dentistry, Renasant Convention Center
  • May 19th at 12 pm - College of Medicine, Renasant Convention Center
  • May 19th at 9 am - College of Nursing, Renasant Convention Center

The Office of the Registrar is responsible for awarding degrees and certificates. Students must meet all requirements before degrees/certificates are awarded.

Commencement Tickets

Graduates will be provided with 6 hard-copy tickets at the time they pick up their commencement regalia. Seating will be pre-assigned, and seat assignments will be indicated on the event ticket. All seating assignments are via lottery.

Additional Information:

  • All guests will require a ticket. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there is a limited number of total people that are allowed in the building.
  • Children 4 and under can sit in laps and do not require an additional ticket.
  • Tickets may not be exchanged and seat swapping is prohibited.
  • Lost or stolen tickets will not be replaced due to strict capacity guidelines
Is there a limit to the number of guests one can invite?
Yes, each graduate is limited to 6 guests attending. Graduates will be provided 6 tickets with assigned seats for inviting guests.

Ceremony Process
  • When the degrees are conferred, please walk up the ramp and your name will be read from an alphabetical list as you cross the stage. You will receive a green tube with a graduation celebration letter from Chancellor Schwab. Then you will descend off of the stage and stop about half-way to have your picture taken Afterwards, you will return to your seat for the remainder of the ceremony.
  • Please be seated immediately after returning to your seat
  • Graduates will recess together immediately following the ceremony to the facility exit.
  • Graduates may rejoin their families outside of the venue or in the venue parking structure.
  • Graduates will not return to the graduate lineup area. Please do not bring any items that you will need to carry or store.
  • Guests will exit the venue immediately following recession of graduates
Commencement Day Etiquette
  • Guests must arrive no earlier than 45 minutes prior to the ceremony start time. Please give facility managers time to clean and set up for the ceremony before entering. Seating is pre-assigned and early arrival will not result in a changed seating location or additional seats.
  • Masks are required for graduates and guests and must be worn over the mouth and nose throughout the ceremony.
  • All guests must present their tickets upon entry. 
  • Graduates will receive their guest’s seat assignments when they pick up regalia. Seat assignments will be indicated on guest’s tickets.
  • All graduates and guests are asked to exit the convention center immediately following graduation recession
When and where do we pick up our Regalia?

Regalia will be distributed in front of the HSC Hub located inside of the Madison Plaza. You may sign up for a pickup time using GivePulse.  

College of Graduate Health Science, College of Health Professions, and College of Pharmacy graduates may register for a pickup time on GivePulse.  Pickup dates for College of Graduate Health Science, College of Health Professions, and College of Pharmacy are May 3-7, 2021 from 8a-3p. 

College of Nursing, College of Medicine, and College Dentistry graduates may register for a pickup time on GivePulse. Pickup dates for College of Nursing, College of Medicine, and College Dentistry are May 10-17, 2021 from 8a-3p. 

How early do I need to arrive to the ceremony?
  • Graduates will arrive separately from guests.
  • Graduates must arrive no earlier than 75 minutes prior to your ceremony, and no later than 60 minutes prior to ceremony start time.
  • Guests must arrive no earlier than 45 minutes prior to the ceremony.
  • There is no secure storage for graduates, so please have pockets or use a very small cross-body bag under your robe. Graduates will not return to lineup area after the ceremony
Commencement Pictures
The University provides professional graduation-photo services through Grad Images. Graduates will be contacted by Grad Images following commencement and offered the opportunity to purchase photos and photo packages. For safety reasons, graduates and their guests must exit the event venue at the conclusion of each ceremony. Casual photos will not be allowed in the convention center.
How long does graduation usually last?
The ceremony can last approximately 1½ hours, depending on the speaker and number of students graduating.

  • Graduates or their guests in need of accessibility assistance to attend the commencement ceremony should e-mail SACE as soon as possible to make the appropriate arrangements.

How can I order announcements?
You may order announcements by visiting Make sure to completely spell out “University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center,” when searching for our campus. All information regarding the venue, date, and time should be available on the website of the vendor.
Replacement Diploma Request

Replacement Diploma Policy:

  • A replacement diploma will be issued if a notarized statement is sent to the Office of the University Registrar attesting that the original diploma was lost, destroyed, never received, or if the student had a legal name change.
  • The name printed on the replacement diploma will be the same as the name printed on the original diploma unless there is a legal name change. If there is a legal name change, the original diploma and copies of any legal documents must be returned with this notarized statement (i.e. marriage license, divorce decree, driver's license, social security card, etc.).
  • The cost of the diploma is $20.00 plus $10.80 for shipping. If it is to be shipped to an address within Tennessee, an additional $1.85 is required for tax. Check or money order should be made payable to University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery of the replacement diploma.
