Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
The UT Health Science Center has an active and growing research community. Many of its research endeavors involve the use of animals.
The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is responsible for ensuring the proper care, use and humane treatment of animals used in research, teaching and training at UTHSC. The IACUC ensures quality animal research at UTHSC is conducted in an ethical and responsible manner. To this end, the IACUC reviews all animal use protocols, ensures adherence to federal regulations, inspects animal facilities and laboratories and oversees training and educational programs. Any project, activity, or testing involving the use of animals must be reviewed and approved by the IACUC before initiation. The IACUC is a resource for faculty, investigators, technicians, students, staff, and administrators, assisting with their animal-related needs.
ACAP is an online system used by investigators and their staff at UT Health Sciences for animal cage management, including animal ordering, animal transfers, cage transfers, weaning, and recording of births.
