Required Training

All investigators and personnel listed on animal protocols must complete the following three online courses:

  • Working with the IACUC
  • AVMA Guidelines for the Euthanasia of Animals: 2013 Edition
  • A protocol-specific course of the investigator's choosing

To request login credentials, email iacuc@uthsc.edu with your full name and active email address.

Course instructions:

  1. Go to AALAS Learning Library and click SIGN IN
  2. Enter your username and password
  3. Create a personal profile (contact information)
 Course #1
  1. Under the "Libraries" tab, click "Animal Care and Use Courses"
  2. Click AALAS Courses
  3. Click Compliance and IACUC Training
  4. Click "Working with the IACUC" (Mandatory Course)
  5. Navigate to the links at the bottom of the course page:
      1. Enter the course via the "Course" link
      2. Take the exam via the "Exam" link
Course #2 
  1. Under the "Libraries" tab, click "Animal Care and Use Courses"
  2. Click AALAS Courses
  3. Click "US Mandates and Guidelines"
  4. Click "AVMA Guidelines for the Euthanasia of Animals: 2020 Edition Lessons" (Mandatory Course)
  5. Navigate to the links at the bottom of the course page:
      1. Enter the course via the "Course" link
      2. Take the exam via the "Exam" link
Course #3 

Must be a protocol specific module chosen by the PI.

CERTIFICATES

  1. Certificates may be generated when you have passed the exam associated with a course
  2. When you submit your exam and have passed, a "certificate" link will be displayed to generate your certificate
  3. To reprint your certificate later, log in to the AALAS Learning Library (as above).
      1. Under the Subscriber Center, click Personal Access
      2. Click "My Transcript"
      3. Under the course title, click the appropriate certificate link
          1. "Exam Certificate" link is active if the exam was passed
          2. "CEU Certificate" link is active if both the course was completed and the exam was passed
