Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology

Welcome to the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at UTHSC

Welcome to the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology in the Department of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). We are a dedicated team of clinicians, educators, and researchers committed to excellence in digestive and liver health through compassionate patient care, cutting-edge clinical training, and impactful academic scholarship.

Our faculty provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology and hepatology services across multiple affiliated medical centers in Memphis, including Regional One Health, the Memphis VA Medical Center, and Methodist University Hospital. Through these partnerships, we deliver personalized care for patients with a wide range of gastrointestinal and liver disorders, integrating the latest advances in diagnostics, therapeutics, and evidence-based practice.

As an academic division, we are deeply committed to training the next generation of specialists. Our ACGME-accredited Gastroenterology Fellowship and Hepatology Fellowship offer rigorous clinical experiences, structured academic curricula, and dedicated time for research — preparing fellows for leadership in clinical practice, academic medicine, and discovery.

We are proud of our collaborative environment, where faculty and trainees engage in regular conferences, journal clubs, clinical case presentations, and scholarly activity that advance both knowledge and patient outcomes. Whether you’re a prospective fellow, a referring clinician, a patient, or a member of the community, we welcome you to explore our Division’s programs and services.

The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology clinical faculty are based at three hospital locations in Memphis:

Methodist University Hospital (MUH),
Regional One Health (ROH), and the
Memphis VA Medical Center.
Faculty members have various clinical and academic interests within luminal gastroenterology and hepatology. In addition, we work closely with the Liver Transplant group based at MUH.

Fellows rotate among the three locations in Memphis. At MUH, they work both with the gastroenterology service and the hepatology/liver transplant group.

Our Gastroenterology fellowship program is fully accredited by the ACGME. We also offer a non-standard Hepatology fellowship program.  Adequate time and resources are available for research and academic activities, which are a required component of the fellowship program. We have regularly scheduled conferences for the fellows at which attendance is mandatory. Presentations by faculty and fellows cover the broad field of gastroenterology and hepatology as well as regular journal club presentations, clinical case presentations and research seminars.
