International Medical Graduate Applicants to the OB/GYN Residency

International Medical Graduates

Thank you for your interest in our program. We accept international medical students and graduates into our program and are looking for select individuals who have recent US clinical experience and above average USMLE scores.

We will consider International Medical Students/Graduates for appointment to our OB/GYN Residency if they have valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificates (or will have a valid ECFMG certificate following graduation).  These applicants must have an ECFMG number at the time of application.  International Medical Students or Graduates must graduate from schools that appear on one of the four lists at the bottom of this page.

Visa status for International Medical Students/Graduates must fall within the following categories:

  • Eligible to seek J-1 visa
  • Permanent Resident or Alien status (i.e., "Green card")
  • In accordance with University of Tennessee Graduate Medical Education guidelines, our institution does not sponsor residents or GME Fellows for "H" type visas.
  • Please view the links to the right on our Applicant page regarding our current Initial Resident Letter of Agreement and terms and conditions of appointment, as well as our recruitment, selection, and appointment policy.

The Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners requires that applicants for license in Tennessee must be graduates either from LCME or AOA accredited schools or from international schools whose admission meet or exceed those of medical schools accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.
