Dr. John W. Runyan Jr. Community Nursing Award

Criteria and Nomination Requirements

  • The Award will be presented to a currently practicing nurse in Tennessee, Arkansas, or Mississippi who has made significant contributions to the development and promotion of community health nursing.
  • The Selection Committee shall consider services performed by the nominee for remuneration and services performed beyond the scope of job responsibilities.
  • The Selection Committee shall place emphasis on the nominee's community visibility.
  • The Selection Committee shall not consider age, sex, or race of the nominee in its deliberations.
  • The Selection Committee shall consider activities within the last five years.
  • The baccalaureate degree in nursing will be the minimum standard of professional education preparation.
  • It is anticipated that the Award will be presented annually; however, in order to maintain the stature and integrity of the Award, if no appropriate nominee is available in any year, there will be no presentation.
  • In exceptional situations, the Selection Committee may choose to waive one or more of the above criteria.
  • The Selection Committee, which includes several past award recipients and is chaired by Dr. Alisa Haushalter, will select the award winner. For more information on the award or the nomination process, please contact Dr. Haushalter at ahaushal@uthsc.edu or (901)448-3933.  
Nomination Form

You will need the following information to complete the nomination:

  • Nominee name, contact information, employer, title, and length of employment
  • Nominator name and contact information
  • Brief summary of why you are nominating this individual 
  • Nomination letter – 2 pages maximum
  • Nominee background and description of nursing activities for the past five years. This could be a resume, a CV, or narrative of up to five pages.
  • Two letters of support – 1 page maximum per letter
