Students May Earn Pre-requisites Online

The UTHSC College of Nursing has an agreement with the academic organization Portage Learning that enables students to fulfill all or a portion of their general education and science requirements. Through this agreement, students may complete pre-requisites to enter UTHSC’s traditional BSN program via the self-directed online platform.

To attain admission to the traditional BSN, the student must complete pre-requisites with a minimum overall combined GPA of 3.0. Students may earn all 60 required credit hours through Portage, or may simply supplement required general studies, as needed.

The science pre-requisites available through Portage are listed below, and students must attain a 2.6 or better GPA for all science prerequisite courses and earn a grade of C or better on all prerequisite science coursework.  (calculation is based on the highest grade achieved on the first or second attempt):

    • BIOD 151: Essential Human Anatomy & Physiology I w/Lab

    • BIOD 171: Essential Microbiology w/Lab
