Meet the Director
James Bruce Stiles
Bruce Stiles has worked at the University of Tennessee for 27 years, beginning his career at the University as an Animal Caretaker. He spent three years in the United States Coast Guard, reaching the rank of Machinery Technician Third class. After leaving the Coast Guard, he returned to the University to work as a postal worker for the University Mail Services.
He eventually transferred over to the University Maintenance organization as a Maintenance Mechanic, and since then have held the following positions in the Maintenance Department: Stationary Engineer, Sr. Stationary Engineer, Stationary Engineer Forman for the Southside of Campus, Boiler Room Forman, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning as well as Preventative Maintenance Supervisor, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning Superintendent.
In Fall 2007, he held the Position of Assistant Director of Facilities, to be promoted in 2008 to the Director of Facilities.
Along the way, he has acquired the following Licenses: Shelby County First Class Refrigeration Engineer, Shelby County First Class Steam Engineer, and Shelby County Master Gas A Contractors License. Bruce has attended several technical courses while at the University, as well as several management courses, and looks forward to new challenges as the Director of Facilities.
