A Weight Loss Program For The Military

Fit Blue Study Information

Researchers in the Department of Preventive Medicine at UTHSC and Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center want to identify the best ways to help active duty military personnel stationed at Lackland Air Base to lose weight.

The Fit Blue study will be tailoring the evidence-based Look Ahead weight loss intervention, which has been validated in a civilian population, to the active duty military population. The program accomodates the lifestyle and environment that is unique to military members. Fit Blue is a FREE research program. We will compare outcomes from two groups in our study. One group will receive a phone-based intensive counselor-directed weight loss intervention. The other group will receive a phone-based self-directed weight loss intervention. Fit Blue will enroll over 200 active duty military personnel stationed at Joint Base San Antonio - Lackland who wish to lose weight and meet the following criteria:

  • Are English speaking
  • Generally in good health

Study participants will be asked to enroll for 13 months. Weight, eating, and activity patterns will be collected by Fit Blue staff. Our staff includes physicians, clinical psychologists, and experts in designing physical activity and weight loss programs.

Recruitment for the Fit Blue study is complete.  For more information on our other studies, please call 1-855-FITT-NOW.
