2015-2016 Chief Residents

Marianne Chumpia, MD

University of Tennessee Health Science Center

chief resident photo

Dr. Chumpia is a native Memphian. She studied Chemistry at the University of Memphis before obtaining her medical degree from UT Health Science Center, and she stayed at UT for her Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency. During that time, her career focus shifted to hospital medicine, and she hopes to pursue further training in quality improvement after chief residency. In what little time she spends away from work, she enjoys vegging to classic television shows and movies, her favorites being M*A*S*H and almost anything with Cary Grant; occasionally, she musters some energy for perilous bike rides on the streets of Memphis and aspires to ride a century by her 30th birthday.

Melanie Smith, DO

Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine

Dr. Smith is a native Memphian, and naturally, a Grizzlies fan! She
received her bachelor’s degree at Florida State University. GO NOLES! She attended Lincoln Memorial University - DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in East TN for medical school. She married her residency sweetheart, Jeff, in October 2014. Dr. Smith enjoys running, traveling, reading, red wine, and spending time with her
family, friends, and dogs. She’s excited to serve as a chief resident and is looking forward to working with each of you!

Lindsey Wargo, MD

Louisiana State University Health Science Center-Shreveport

Dr. Wargo was born in Houston, Texas and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. After learning to love the Crimson Tide at a young age (thanks to her dad), she attended the University of Alabama where she majored in Chemistry. She knows it is cliché, but always knew she wanted to be a pediatrician. Lindsey returned home to Shreveport to attend medical school at LSU. She is happily engaged to Brad, whom she met while in college. Lindsey’s hobbies and interests include photography, Zumba, reading, drinking wine, and watching too much TV. She has enjoyed her last three years as part of the Le Bonheur family and is excited about spending another year in Memphis as one of the chief residents!
