Residency Training Information
The University of Tennessee Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine offers an ACGME approved training program for residents in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
The Department congratulates all four of our graduating 2012 residents for having passed their Anatomic and Clinical Pathology board certification exam.
Anatomic Pathology
Training in Anatomic Pathology includes rotations in:
- surgical pathology
- neuropathology
- oral pathology
- cytology
- autopsy pathology
- gastrointestinal pathology
- dermatopathology
- forensic medicine
- pediatric pathology
Clinical Pathology
Training in Clinical Pathology include:
- clinical chemistry
- hematopathology
- coagulation
- transfusion medicine
- microbiology
- cytogenetics
- immunology
- laboratory management
- informatics
- molecular diagnosis
The more than 75 pathologists who are involved in this residency program provide a great depth and breadth to the residency experience. In addition to a variety of clinical research efforts, the University department has a strong basic research program with emphases in cancer pathobiology, cytokine biology and vascular biology. There is also a Ph D. program in Pathology operated co-jointly with departments at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
