Fellowship Description

The University of Tennessee - Campbell Clinic orthopaedic trauma fellowship program provides a comprehensive trauma experience at a high volume Level 1 trauma center serving as a referral facility for five states including Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri, and Kentucky. There are currently six orthopaedic traumatologists (three full time). The fellowship is primarily focused on the following three areas: 1) Management, both operative and nonoperative, of complex polytrauma including pelvic, acetabular, and periarticular fractures, 2) Reconstructive fracture management including non-unions, malunions, and deformity correction, and 3) Clinical investigation and research. The fellowship provides extensive operative exposure of complex fractures with an emphasis on pelvic and acetabular injuries; the sole Fellow is the operative surgeon or first assistant in excess of 180 such cases per year. The Fellow interacts with two orthopaedic trauma teams. Duties include daily morning report/fracture conference. This conference, attended by the residents, fellow, and staff, includes discussion of indications and preoperative planning as well as review of operative and nonoperative cases from the previous day. The Fellow then has first choice of operative cases. A minimum of three orthopaedic trauma rooms is available daily, typically more. The Fellow has opportunities for research and to pursue additional areas of interest including total joint replacement for acetabular fracture, periacetabular osteotomies, and deformity correction. The Fellow is encouraged to attend several instructional courses and national meetings throughout the year.

This fellowship participates in the San Francisco Match Program.
