group of young adults talking and laughingIn April of 2001, the U.S. began to nationally observe the month of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Throughout the month, organizations across the country host events and programs that aim to educate the public and reach out to survivors. Teal ribbons are worn by many to raise awareness in support of the cause.

In 2014, President Barack Obama proclaimed the month of April as National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, urging all Americans to support survivors of sexual assault and work together to prevent these crimes in our respective communities. On many college and university campuses, Sexual Assault Awareness Month serves to bring awareness around these issues through consciousness-raising and educational programming.

During the month of April, the Office of Equity and Diversity, along with Campus Police and the Office of Graduate Medical Education (GME) will sponsor programming in an effort to bring awareness to sexual violence. All faculty, staff, students, residents, postdocs, and retirees are invited to attend.
