Postsecondary Education and Careers in Health Care

The Office of Access and Compliance is inclined by the institutional strategic plan to encourage and monitor progress in implementing access and engagement initiatives for K-12 students. Moreover, the Office of Access and Compliance will focus on access to healthcare careers that will encompass sharing information about access to postsecondary opportunities within The University of Tennessee System institutions and throughout Tennessee.

According to Law Insider, access to higher education means equal opportunities to start, continue, and complete higher education, regardless of the student’s economic and social situation. The Office of Access and Compliance has identified four strategies to enhance K-12 student access to college and health care careers that are as follows:

  • Establishing collaborative, tangible relationships and partnerships between Tennessee high schools and UT Health Science Center.

  • Working with K-12 guidance counselors and community organizations to ensure Tennessee students know and understand their higher education and health care career options at UT Health Science Center.

  • Increasing communication between educators in the K-12 community, particularly those in Tennessee high schools and UT Health Science Center colleges.

  • Participating in TNACRAO and NACAC college fairs, high school visits, and regional receptions across Tennessee.

College choice models in higher education have consistently described how students develop education and career aspirations, receive and review information about college and financial aid, and decide if and where they will enroll. The Office of Access and Compliance will collaborate with UT Health Science colleges, Enrollment Management, Advancement, Student Success, and others to bring access to fruition.
