Michelle Chi, MD
Dr. Chi is thrilled to be back in Tennessee for her fellowship. She was born in Johnson City, TN and attended medical school at UTHSC here in Memphis. Michelle went out of state for her residency in Virginia where she met her amazing husband, a physician who works for the VA hospital. Dr. Chi enjoys playing violin, reading, exploring Shelby Farms, and traveling.
Lindsey Lands, MD
Dr. Lands has lived in every section of Tennessee. He was born in Clarksville (middle TN), grew up in Oak Ridge (east TN), and now lives in Memphis (west TN). Lindsey completed his undergraduate studies in biology and psychology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, before moving to Memphis to attend the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. Lindsey stayed in Memphis for his Internal Medicine residency at UTHSC. Dr. Lands is married and enjoys spending time with his wife, Virginia, and their daughter and Chihuahua, Nigel.
Muhammad Mirza, MD
Dr. Mirza is originally from Karachi, Pakistan and attended Sindh Medical College there. He moved to Memphis and completed his residency here at UTHSC. Muhammad was most recently Director of Quality & Associate Medical Director for Baptist Medical Group DeSoto Hospitalist Program. Dr. Mirza’s wife, Sumaiya Amin, is an internist with Baptist Medical Group. They have two young boys who keep them very busy. When he is not spending time with family, he likes cricket, squash and weight training.
Sameer Nasir, MD
Dr. Nasir comes from a family of physicians; his father is a family practice doctor and his mother a radiologist. Sameer attended medical school in his home country of Pakistan, and received a scholarship to work in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Nasir made his way to Memphis and completed his residency at UTHSC. He then was appointed as chief resident for Internal Medicine at the VAMC here in town. Dr. Nasir is married and enjoys taking long drives with his wife and exploring new places. He also enjoys cricket, swimming and reading.
Namratha Vontela, MD
Dr. Vontela graduated from Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal, India. She and her husband, who is a neurologist, later moved to Memphis where she completed her Internal Medicine Residency at University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 2014. Dr. Vontela is interested in all areas of oncology with special attention to breast cancer. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking and spending quality time with family and friends.
Dr. Kenneth Byrd, MD
Dr. Byrd was born and raised in Kansas City. He graduated with a finance/accounting degree from Rockhurst University in Kansas City. He then went to physical therapy school but eventually realized that he wanted to be a physician instead. He completed medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine & Biosciences. He then moved to Wichita, KS where he completed his Internal Medicine residency. He moved to Memphis with his wife, Kelly and his two little girls. They especially enjoy going to the Children's Museum, the Zoo & walking along the river on Mud Island.
Jeffrey Caughran, MD
Dr. Caughran was born in Memphis while his parents were in medical school but grew up in Chattanooga, TN and is the oldest of 4 children. He graduated from the Furman University with a degree in Political Sciences. After a short time working in the real world, he decided to pursue a career in medicine and graduated from the University of TN College of Medicine. He continued his training at UT in the Department of Internal Medicine and following residency was the Chief Resident in Internal Medicine at Methodist University Hospital. He is married to Casey, who is a Child Life Specialist at LeBonheur, and has 2 dogs. In their spare time they enjoy anything food related and hopes to one day become a great oncologist but also one of America's most prestigious chefs.
Melissa Crawley, MD
Dr.Crawley grew up just outside of St. Louis, Missouri. She has wanted to become an oncologist since the age of 15, when she began working at a summer camp for children with cancer and blood disorders. At the University of Missouri, she completed undergraduate studies in biochemistry and rural sociology, while finding time to work in cancer research and attend nearly every Mizzou football game. She moved to Chicago to attend medical school at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. After surviving a few really impressive blizzards, she moved to Tucson, Arizona where she completed her internal medicine residency. She moved to Memphis to pursue her life-long dream of improving the health and quality of life for cancer patients.... and to live in the backyard of the Memphis Redbirds! Other than enjoying watching her favorite sports teams, she also enjoys cooking and playing flute and guitar.
Vamsi Koduri, MD
Dr. Koduriis from the great state of Ohio, and is naturally a huge Buckeye fan. He completed his undergraduate degree in Economics at Case in Cleveland, Ohio, his Masters in Public Health at The Ohio State University, and his medical school at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Following completion of his graduate studies, he went onto pursue his medical residency at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was there that he discovered how immensely rewarding, and intellectually stimulating and challenging it is to take care of both cancer patients and their families. As a result, he has ventured out of the state of Ohio for the first time to pursue his dreams of becoming a Hematologist /Oncologist. In his free time, he also enjoys working out, playing soccer and tennis, spending time with his dog, Griffin, and of course watching his Buckeyes on television!
Janice Mullins, MD
Dr.Mullins was born in Los Angeles, CA, but soon moved to Texas where she has spent most of her life and education. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and then attended the University of North Texas Health Science Center for medical school where she became the first in her family to become a physician. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, TX. She is married and has one son who is a toddler. Her husband works at LeBonheur Hospital as a pediatric hospitalist. In her spare time, she enjoys outdoor activities with her family including jogging / biking and likes to think of herself as a "foodie," so if you have any restaurant recommendations in Memphis, please let her know!
Felicia Hare, MD
Dr. Hare is originally from East TN and completed her undergraduate training at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Memphis has become her second home after completing both medical school and residency training at UTHSC. She met her husband, Brian, during residency and they spend most of their time outside of work chasing after their energetic little boy. Dr. Hare also loves reading, cooking, and spending time outdoors.
Bryan Huber, MD
Dr. Huber is a native of Arizona, where he attended Arizona State University as an undergraduate studying molecular biosciences and biotechnology. He went on to study medicine at the Phoenix campus of the University of Arizona. Following medical school, Dr. Huber trained in Internal Medicine at UTHSC and is excited to continue in his Fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at UTHSC and the West Cancer Center. Dr. Huber enjoys doing research, specifically in hematology. He also enjoys spending time with his family, playing basketball, and outdoor activities.
Jason Porter, MD
Dr. Porter is a native Memphian. He completed his undergraduate degrees in biology and chemistry at Christian Brothers University and medical education right here at home with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Now, he is excited to be a hematology/oncology fellow with The West Cancer Center. He recognized the impact that cancer could have on an individual and family at a young age. Unknowingly, he would eventually understand and study some of the most intricate nuances of the multitude of diseases which are “cancer.” As a training physician in the program, he enjoys spending time with his co-fellows and the staff doctors, discussing and discovering ways to approach and treat affected patients and their loved ones. When he is not working, he enjoys eating, sleeping and spending time with his family. He will complete his fellowship in 2019 and looks forward to continuing in what he hopes will be a lifetime of research and discovery
Philippe Prouet, MD
Dr. Prouet grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana where he received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (Geaux Cajuns!!). He moved to Shreveport, LA to attend medical school at LSU Health Sciences Center, where he met his wife, Emily, who is an Ophthalmology resident. They moved to Memphis where he completed his Internal Medicine residency, and he is thrilled to stay at UT to complete his Hematology/Oncology fellowship with the West Cancer Center. He enjoys spending time with his wife and twin boys.
Harsha Ranganath, MD
Dr. Ranganath returns to Tennessee after serving as chief resident at Scripps Mercy hospital in sunny San Diego, where he met his lovely fiancée Anita. Prior to that, he completed residency training in internal medicine at UTMC in Knoxville. In his spare time he enjoys eating, playing sports, tickling the ivories, and keeping up with his Boilermakers.
