Curriculum

All didactic courses must be completed in the sequence listed. Clinical rotation courses will be completed in the order assigned to the individual PA student by the program.

Individual course requirements and deadlines for assignments are included on the course syllabus available on Blackboard for the enrolled PA student.

This is a graduate program consisting of 112 semester hours. The program is delivered over 24 months leading to the conferment of the degree: Master of Medical Science-Physician Assistant (MMS-PA).

Year 1 / Year 2

PA cohorts matriculate one time per year in the spring term. The curriculum below applies to the 2014- 2015 academic year for students matriculating in the Spring 2015 term. Students who matriculated in January 2014 should refer to the 2013-2014 Catalog for their degree requirements.

Clinical Year (Year 2): Supervised Clinical Practice Experiences (Rotations) for students matriculating in Spring 2015

Students who matriculated in January 2014 should refer to the 2013-2014 Catalog for their degree requirements. The clinical year curriculum includes 11 required rotations that will be completed in the order determined by the Clinical Coordinator. An individual student’s rotation schedule will vary. The tables below are representative of a potential student schedule. All rotations are offered each term of the clinical year. Students are not allowed to set up their own rotations. No international rotations are offered at this time.

Required rotations include: Family Medicine I, Family Medicine II, Internal Medicine I, Internal Medicine II, General Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Women’s Health, Behavioral Medicine, Elective I and Elective II.

The Professional Curriculum

The schedule of a physician assistant student is rigorous. Because of the time required for attending lectures, laboratories and clinical assignments, plus the time necessary for study and practice, students are encouraged to minimize outside work commitments during the time they are enrolled in the program.
