Sally Badoud joined UTHSC in September 2016. Before joining the UTHSC team, Sally spent six years at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) in three different roles: Director of Marketing, Student Recruitment; Interim Director of Admissions; and Assistant Director of Marketing and Media Services for the division of Professional and Continuing Studies. Prior to her time at UAH, she worked for StoneRiver, Inc., a marketing firm in Decatur, Alabama,where she was promoted from Graphic Designer to Art Director to Creative Director in her nine years there.

Sally has a BA in art and an MBA in management, both from The University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Amber Carter joined UTHSC in September 2010 and has been with the Communications and Marketing Department since February 2011. Her duties include researching, writing and editing press material, feature writing, project coordination and development, assisting with media relations and placement as well as providing support on communication initiatives. She is the creator, producer, and director of the Student Video Spotlight series and writes the print editions of the Student Spotlight for every issue of The Record.

Carter proudly serves as editor for the Office of Equity and Diversity's groundbreaking Diversity Matters newsletter. She also serves as the student liaison for the department and sits on UTHSC's 504/ADA advisory board as an advocate for persons with disabilities. She has previously held positions in Enrollment Services and Human Resources at UTHSC. She is an honors graduate of the University of Memphis where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications with a concentration in Film and Video Production. Carter received training from the Memphis Film Commission and is a certified production assistant for television and film.

Jackie Denton joined the Communications and Marketing team in September 2015. She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, College of Communication and Information where she was actively involved with The Volunteer Yearbook and SCOOP, the College of Communication and Information magazine. Her work experience also includes internships with Time Inc.’s Southern Progress Corporation and Navy Personnel Command. Most recently her role was in sales and brand management, spending two years in France. Jackie is excited to serve her alma mater on the UTHSC Memphis campus. Her duties include administrative projects, writing and editing press material, assisting with the production of UTHSC’s yearbook Asklepieion, and assisting with social media initiatives.

Thurman HobsonThurman Hobson

Thurman Hobson, Jr. is a former Air Force photographer who has worked in Greenland, Japan, and Korea, assigned to cover many major news events of the day for news organizations such as Stars and Stripes. His many photography assignments included aerial photography and motion pictures. After coming to UTHSC, Thurman acted as manager of the Medical Photography and Illustration Department, where he was responsible for all aspects of coverage. He has worked with the Tennessee Legislature and has contributed to numerous magazines and other publications that involve the health professions and a myriad of other areas. 

David MeyerDavid Meyer

David Meyer comes from an advertising and marketing background. His company, Meyer Creative, provided strategic planning, creative direction, print and web design, illustration and copywriting for everyone from Fortune 100 companies to string quartets. Projects ranged from naming, launching and promoting product lines to government websites to a series of humorous greeting cards. David’s award-winning work has been featured in “best of logos” collections and college-level graphic design textbooks.

His duties include external marketing communications such as print ads and billboards, and he serves as editor of the College of Medicine and College of Nursing alumni magazines.

Shiela Champlin

Peggy Reisser Winburne
Media Relations and Communications Specialist

Peggy Reisser Winburne joined UTHSC in July 2013, after more than 25 years as a reporter, editor and department head at The Commercial Appeal. Her reporting has ranged from business news; to general assignment, lifestyles and feature stories; to coverage of crime, law enforcement and state and federal courts. She served as an assistant features editor and managed the paper’s Lifestyles Department.

She began her career at The Nashville Banner, where she was a political reporter covering state government and the state Senate, and served as an assistant metro editor.

A graduate of the School of Journalism at the University of Mississippi, she serves on the board of the Memphis Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. Along with managing the department and communications, branding and marketing efforts of the various colleges at UTHSC, her responsibilities include working with local, national and international media on stories about UTHSC; developing and distributing press releases, videos and stories promoting health care experts, clinical work and research being done at UTHSC; and directing UTHSC’s social media efforts. Peggy most recently served as interim assistant vice chancellor for Communications and Marketing during its transition in leadership.
