Dear Colleagues and Friends,

We are shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Dr. Benjamin Mauck, a UTHSC graduate, assistant professor, and program director of the Hand Surgery Fellowship, yesterday afternoon at Campbell Clinic. 

Dean Strome sent out a thoughtful message to the College of Medicine last night, and I wanted to share it with you:

Dear members of the UTHSC College of Medicine community,

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I inform you of the untimely passing of Dr. Benjamin Mauck, an esteemed alumnus and beloved faculty member of the College of Medicine. Dr. Mauck served as an Assistant Professor and Director of Hand Fellowship in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Biomedical Engineering, where he made significant contributions to both patient care and academic excellence.

Dr. Mauck was an exceptional orthopaedic surgeon, and his dedication to delivering his patients the highest standard of care was evident in every interaction. As a teacher and mentor, Dr. Mauck played a vital role in shaping the next generation of medical professionals. He was deeply committed to our students' education and development, sharing his vast knowledge and experience with enthusiasm and compassion. His guidance inspired countless aspiring surgeons to pursue excellence in their careers.

The loss of Dr. Mauck is deeply felt by our entire community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives he has touched. Dr. Mauck's legacy will forever leave an indelible mark on the UTHSC College of Medicine, inspiring generations to come with his contributions to the field of orthopaedic surgery.

During this challenging time, let us come together as a community to support one another and honor the memory of Dr. Benjamin Mauck.
