Campus Police

The UTHSC campus boasts a current population of approximately 6,900 faculty, staff, and students. As in all communities, public safety, crime, and the loss of property are a daily concern. This site reflects our commitment to providing services in a professional manner to the public which we serve. It is our hope that you will find everything here that you need to know about safety, security, and police services. Our home page has been redesigned to facilitate easy access to our most requested information on programs and services, crime information, and our annual safety and fire report, which contains various links to comprehensive crime statistics for our campus.

The University Police Department is responsible for the safety and security of the campus and the University community. We believe everyone can play an important role in keeping the UTHSC campus a safe place to learn, work and live. By following a few safety guidelines--such as securing your personal property and reporting suspicious activity and suspicious persons right away--YOU can help the UTHSC Police Department deter criminal activity. Please take an active ownership role in making the UTHSC a safe community.

Emergency Police Response

If immediate police, fire, or medical response is needed, dial 8-4444 from a University phone (all UTHSC prefixes). From a non-university phone or cell phone, dial 901-448-4444.

In addition, emergency phones, blue light phones and towers are located in strategic areas throughout campus.

9-1-1 Calls

When you are on UT Campus property, call Dispatch 448-4444 for 9-1-1 calls. Dispatch will send UT Police quickly knowing the destination of the call, where MPD will not know the location of our buildings. If you are off UT Campus, please dial 9-1-1 from whatever phone you have available; however, be sure to give the address you are calling from because some cell phones do not assist with locations.

Also, when you are on campus, all 9-1-1 calls from your office, building or cell phone go to a central location in one of the buildings and it does not matter which building you call from, dispatch cannot tell where you are. So please call dispatch and immediately let them know you have a 9-1-1 call and dispatch will ask the pertinent information needed to get paramedics, fire, etc. from MFD or MPD.

Non-Emergency Police Response

For non-emergency police response on campus, dial 901-448-5679 (business hours) or 901-448-4440 nights, weekends and holidays.

Toll-Free Campus Police Dispatch

When dialing 877-485-UTPD (8-8873) the call will go straight to Campus Police dispatch the same as dialing 448-4444. Please be advised, when in the local area it is best to call the local numbers beginning with area code "901", this will avoid unnecessary charges by local callers using the 800#’s.

Inclement weather closing information

When dialing 877-60UTICE (8-8423) the call will give you the Inclement weather closing information. The same as dialing 448-8423.

Alert Logo

During an emergency situation, every second counts and communication is critical. That's why Campus Police has taken steps to ensure that you receive emergency notifications at your UTHSC email address. It's also easier than ever for you to register additional emails, cell phone numbers, and pager numbers so that you receive alerts regardless of where you are or what device you use.

Formerly referred to as e2Campus, UTHSC Alert is the notification service that university administrators and Campus Police use to communicate by email and text message with UTHSC members and others in the case of an emergency.
