I teach solely online. My current courses are housed in the Blackboard LMS so I am very familiar with this platform. I do undergrad testing in Blackboard using ProctorU. We have a dedicated person who enters our exams into ExamSoft so I do not know how this is done; however, I know how to retrieve information, review the test item analysis, etc. I have used Zoom but my experience is limited. Others would be better able to help with this.
Pedagogical Expertise
-
Content delivery. I have developed and taught over 18 courses, so I have become adept at setting up courses quickly. I am often the person the CON turns to when faculty leave unexpectedly before a semester begins or when faculty have problems with course organization.
-
Active learning. I do very little lecturing so that I can use my time to develop active learning content. Because students want lecture content, I turn to Osmosis.org and https://onlinemeded.org for high yield content and to selected YouTube channels for content on diagnostic studies. My active learning content is primarily focused on case studies and gaming. I also have small groups (3 students per group usually) develop infographics, online posters, and StudyMate activities (an easy-to-use engine that allows them to generate crossword puzzles, flashcards, and similar items). In the past, I've incorporated wikis and other group activities.
-
Assessment. I have experience evaluating courses across the U.S. for Quality Matters. I have also evaluated courses for the College of Nursing using a program-derived checklist.
