Research

The Center for Cancer Research (CCR) has strong ties to the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine through the Experimental Pathology faculty. The CCR has two Core Laboratories directed by Pathology and Laboratory Medicine faculty: The J.S. and Bobbi Allen Gene Expression Analysis Laboratory and the Viral Vector Core Laboratory.

The J.S. and Bobbi Allen Gene Expression Analysis Laboratory is located in the CRB room 171 and is a fee-for-service facility. The facility includes a Nanostring nCounter gene expression analysis system, which is designed to provide an ultrasensitive, reproducible and highly multiplexed method for detecting gene expression across all levels of biological expression. This assay provides a method for direct labeling of mRNAs and miRNAs with molecular barcodes called nCounter Reporter Probes without the use of reverse transcription or amplification. The assay can be run on total RNA isolated from any source, including formalin-fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) samples. For further information on the capabilities on the instrument and technology please go to the NANOSTRING website.

Please contact Dr. Lawrence Pfeffer for additional information on services.

The UTHSC Viral Vector Core Laboratory (VVC) was established with support from a Department of Defense grant awarded in May 2007. Located in the Cancer Research Building on the Memphis campus of UTHSC, the VVC provides services to the Memphis, Knoxville and Chattanooga campuses. Viral Vector Core services include lentiviral, adenoviral and adeno-associated viral vector, as well as traditional retroviral vectors. Vectors services are available to all UTHSC investigators to support their research efforts on a fee-for-service basis.

Please contact Dr. Junming Yue for additional information on services.
