The University of Tennessee accepts 8 residents per year through the National Residency Matching Program. The program is competitive, and solid academic credentials should be considered necessary prerequisites. Interested applicants should complete the Association American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) application. Our application deadline is November 30, 2016.
A complete application consists of:
- ERAS Application
- Personal Statement
- Dean's Letter
- USMLE or COMLEX Scores
- 3 letters of Recommendation (OB/GYN Chair Highly desired)
Deadline for applications through ERAS is November 30, 2016 at 10:59pm CST. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered for an interview.
Positions are offered through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP).
International Medical Graduate Requirements
A complete application consists of the items listed above under the "Application Process" title plus a valid ECFMG certificate.
You must pass USMLE Step 1, USMLE Step 2(CK). No exceptions will be made. We do not require USMLE Step 3 for residency training and it will not be considered when reviewing your application.
You may submit your application without your Step 2(CS) score. However, you must have your score and a valid ECFMG certificate by June 2017.
We offer a J1 Visa only. Please do not submit an application to our program if you require a H visa.
Graduation from Medical School should be within the last five (5) years. If your graduation date is prior to 2011, work experience as a physician in a clinical setting for at least 2 years during the period from 2012 to 2015 is preferred.
