Leave Windows Devices Turned on Over the Weekend If you have a UTHSC Windows device, leaving it on over the weekend can make your technology
life easier.
For security reasons, ITS has begun automatically upgrading qualified UTHSC-owned
computers to Windows 11 (or for those that can't update to Windows 11, we're installing
Windows 10 21H2). But this can only be done when the devices are kept on over the
weekend.
If you still have questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with the Service Desk
at 901.448.2222.

QuestionPro License Expires May 31, 2022 We have been telling you that our QuestionPro license is ending at the end of May
for a few months.
Why is that important? Because if you have a QuestionPro form or survey, you will
lose access to that data once the license ends. Once that data is gone, it's gone
forever.
We don't want you to lose your data! Don't remember if you did a form or survey in
QuestionPro or Qualtrics? Call the Service Desk at 901.448.2222 for assistance.

Deepfakes – What They Are and Why You Should Care Deepfakes are synthetic media in which a person in an existing image or video is replaced
with someone else's likeness. It is the Photoshop of the 21st century.
It is a type of artificial intelligence used to create convincing images, audio, and
video hoaxes. The term, which describes both the technology and the resulting bogus
content, is a portmanteau of deep learning and fake.
Why should we care? It was funny when Tom Cruise was showing up everywhere talking
about everything. It's all in fun, right?
WRONG!
The one of the latest uses of deepfakes is in the Russia-Ukraine conflict where a
fake Ukrainian President Zelenskyy told Ukraine forces to surrender. It was quickly
defeated when minutes later, the real Zelenskyy posted on Facebook denying the claim.
Deepfakes are getting harder and harder to recognize as technology improves. As with
all misleading and fake information, verify it using reputable sources.
Policy Highlight - Standard-InfoSec-GP-002-Data & System Classification While people are usually most concerned about the confidentiality of their data, there
are two other cybersecurity areas of interest, the integrity of data and the availability
of that data: together known as the CIA triad. With a revised Standard-InfoSec-GP-002-Data & System Classification, system and data owners have guidance on how to classify their data in all three
areas. |

Roger Pugh In each issue, we feature one of our amazing ITS team members. We learn more about
Roger Pugh with our Instructional Technology team in this segment.
What is your role and how long have you been in ITS at UTHSC? I serve on the Instructional Technology team and have been with ITS for three years.
What is a day in the life of Roger like? My day generally starts with checking on classrooms and auditoriums around campus.
Making sure that the technology and A/V equipment is in working order and ready to
go for the day’s events. Throughout the day I assist in monitoring classes and their
recordings, responding to emails, and helping to provide support for any other A/V
or instructional needs that may arise.
What is your favorite thing about working at UTHSC? If the question were multiple choice, I would definitely have to say E) for all of
the above. The daily work is ever changing, and I am fortunate to be surrounded by
a team of hard working and helpful people. The benefits offered are positively “not
too shabby”. I also enjoy having the opportunity to have a good life balance, which
is always a plus.
What’s something most people don’t know about you? Prior to being hired full-time, I had the privilege of working at UTHSC as an on-site
vendor technician for roughly six years. In that time, I worked with the ITS Infrastructure
team (of that day) that handled the voice and data cabling needs in and around campus.
