Stats: Single
Hobbies: Tennis, running, working out, UF football, Apple.
What I did before medical school: Went to college at University of Florida.
Why I chose UT-Jackson: The fact that UT Jackson was an unopposed program was a huge selling point for me. I also heard nothing but good things about UT Jackson. Furthermore, a friend of mine, who graduated from another program, highly recommended it. At the end of the day, I was sold on the fact that UT Jackson provided a great environment and had a solid foundation for its residents and that it was exactly where I wanted to be. I also loved how close the residents are with each other, just like a family.

Julie Brewer, M.D.

Hobbies: Reading, movies, spending time outdoors.
What I did before medical school: I spent six months working as a medical assistant with a family physician in Sparta, Tennesssee.
Why I chose UT-Jackson: I was first drawn to Jackson because of its reputation in the family medicine community. Jackson was my first interview, and I found myself using it as the standard to which I compared all other programs. I felt very comfortable in the city and with everyone I met at the program. My goal for residency was to find a program where I could feel at home and get the training I need to be a competent rural family physician; and Jackson was that program.

Everyone at UT-Jackson was kind, laid-back, worked well together and enjoyed doing things together outside of work. Jackson was the best fit for us: Blake kept his job, we would be 2 hours from our family, there are lots of opportunities for moonlighting, and most importantly we really liked everyone in the program.

Everyone seemed to be open and gave honest responses to all my questions or reservations I had at that time. Each time I met with them I was never treated like an outsider.
