Urology Faculty: Dana Giel, M.D.
Assistant Professor, Pediatric Urology
Dr. Giel received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Political Science from Vanderbilt University in 1996, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa. She received her medical degree with highest honors from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis in 2000, where she was named an Albert M. Hand Scholar and elected to membership in Alpha Omega Alpha. From 200-2002, Dr. Giel served as intern and resident in general surgery at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. She then completed her residency in Urology at the University of Tennessee in Memphis in 2006. Following completion of her general urology training, she completed a two-year fellowship in Pediatric Urology at the University of Tennessee, Memphis and LeBonheur Children’s Medical Center.
Dr. Giel has authored several publications in peer-reviewed journals, and she has presented numerous abstracts at regional and national meetings. She is actively involved in multiple clinical research projects, and she enjoys a collaborative research relationship with her colleagues at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Her research interests include vesicoureteral reflux, neurogenic bladder and the role of botulinum toxin in its management, Wilm’s tumor, and pediatric urologic trauma. Dr. Giel is on staff at LeBonheur Children’s Medical Center, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Methodist Hospitals of Memphis, and Baptist Memorial Hospital system. Dr. Giel is an active member of the American Urological Association, Society of Pediatric Urology, Society of Women in Urology, American Academy of Pediatrics-Section on Urology, and the Society of Fetal Urology.
