UTHSC SACS Accreditation
Since 1897, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has been continuously accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral degrees. As a matter or record, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and the University of Tennessee, Memphis (as the University of Tennessee Health Science Center was previously named), merged in 2000 for the purposes of accreditation. Prior to this date, the University of Tennessee, Memphis (i.e., the University of Tennessee Health Science Center) was accredited by SACSCOC from 1972 to 2000. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097 or call 404-679-4500 for questions about the accreditation of The University of Tennessee.
Given the size, scope, annual budget and relative uniqueness of the UTHSC, it is time one again to seek separate accreditation. The efforts to secure separate accreditation will be ongoing and significant. Over the course of time there will be numerous opportunities for faculty, staff and students to be involved in the process and to learn of our progress.
Included on this website are a number of resources regarding SACS accreditation, the process we will follow as an institution, anticipated milestones, answers to some commonly posed questions, and contact information should you have any additional questions. Information provided on this website will be updated periodically as a means through which to keep the UTHSC community informed regarding our progress.
