Animal Import and Export
The Laboratory Animal Care Unit routinely assists investigators with the import and
export of rodents to and from our UTHSC campus. This does not generally pertain to
obtaining animals from standard rodent vendors (e.g. Jax, Charles River) but relates
to the movement of animals between research institutions (locally, nationally or internationally).
There is an exchange of rodent health information when institutions are shipping rodents
and imported animals usually undergo an 8-week quarantine upon arrival.
For rodent export, our husbandry and veterinary technician staff can provide assistance with the boxing of animals into shipping crates and providing food and water to sustain the mice during shipment. We also take care of arranging shipment with the courier service. For more information, and a list of associated fees, please see our ordering page.
